On Fighting, Pt 2
On Fighting, Pt 2
Yegor and Joel join Evan and Joshua for the follow-up to the Fighting episode, bringing eight years and three years of Brazilian jiu-jitsu between them to a conversation about what training on the mat actually teaches you about showing up in life. The discussion moves through ego, consequences, process versus outcome, and how physical confrontation in a trusted community is one of the few places left where your self-beliefs get tested directly and immediately. Yegor draws on growing up in Russia where physical confrontation was normalized, and both he and Joel land on control, not aggression, as the core of the art and maybe of a well-lived life. The episode closes with Joshua connecting his first class to his fighter pilot brother who trained for war his whole career and never had to use it, and Evan landing on the idea that fighting in community builds society rather than tears it down.
