THE THRESHOLD OF MANHOOD
There was a time when young men would leave the comfort of their childhood home
and step into a wilder place.
In that liminal space he would experience a rite of passage–maybe in the presence of men, maybe alone– where he would face the unknown beyond the glow of the campfire.
Through facing the fear of the unknown, he would come to know both himself and what it meant to be a man.
This marked a transition from boyhood to manhood.

We are a tribeless generation of men raising our sons without the context that has grounded humans for tens of thousands of years;
we no longer have meaningful rites of passage.
Unknowingly, we settle for shadow experiences overseen not by elders, wise men, or leaders, but by other uninitiated boys…
But, we are not here to make a value judgment about how things are changing.
We are here to recognize that change and do something about it.
For the sake of our sons, daughters, their children, and their children’s children.

We are men exploring edges alongside other men.
We’re not interested in politics (not here, at least). We’re not out to reinforce the toxic masculinity that no doubt exists; instead
we seek to understand and embody wholeness as men in the 21st century.
We believe that our lack of initiation from boyhood to manhood has come with consequences. And that society has failed to update cultural contexts
to keep up with how our communities have fractured into ever-shrinking circles.
We believe that we, as individuals, must adapt and learn how to make sense of a world spinning faster and faster.
We believe that the wisdom we seek can only be found beyond the edges of our comfort zones.

We’re borrowing the term from Iron John by Robert Bly. We highly recommend reading the book whether or not you join us in the Wild. If you do join us, it’ll be talked about frequently.

The woods are a symbol for a journey into the unknown, one that must be embarked upon metaphorically (although, we do really like the woods and spend a lot of time there).
